Wade, Lisa, and their children, Emitt (17) and Sadie (15), have always enjoyed camping. Wade has fond memories of camping as a child and has continued the tradition with his own family. One of Wade’s favorite activities while camping is cooking on the fire, particularly roasting marshmallows. However, he noticed that his kids and their friends often struggled to roast their marshmallows without burning them. Wade would try his best to roast the perfect marshmallow, but more often than not, it would catch fire. Despite this, whenever he did manage to achieve a golden brown marshmallow, the kids would be amazed and ask him to make one just like it.
Wade began to wonder if there was a better way to roast marshmallows. He searched for existing products but found nothing that met his needs. This sparked an idea in his mind, and he decided to create a prototype in his garage using metal rods and a wire mesh from an unused oil filter. After assembling and testing it, Wade discovered that his invention prevented the marshmallows from burning and toasted them to a perfect golden brown. He even had difficulty getting one to catch fire. This led to the birth of his innovative idea.
Wade wanted his invention to be multi-functional, so he designed it to also cook other campfire foods. He made sure the end skewers were long enough to hold a hot dog perpendicular to the stick. Over the past year, Wade and his family have used the invention to roast corn on the cob and even fry onions and other vegetables on the burn guard. Living in BC, they often face open fire bans during the dry summer months. However, they discovered that the invention could also be used on a propane fire bowl. They found that if the marshmallow was cooked for too long, it would simply fall onto the burn guard instead of into the fire bowl, keeping their lava rocks clean. With its unique features, using Wade’s invention is a no-brainer for their camping trips.
